Using hackathons to drive creativity and innovation for healthcare solutions

Challenge

  • A marketing technology organisation wanted to crowdsource ideas from its existing talent to embrace company values collectively, drive engagement, and further develop their diverse & flexible work environment.
  • The organisation also wanted to promote transparency by facilitating talent mobility and ensuring a culture of recognition by showcasing colleagues’ standout qualities and achievements.

Approach

The 1st of a series of hackathons was designed and executed during a 48-hour remote event where employees came together to brainstorm, develop, and present new ideas. The event was open to all employees, regardless of their role or experience level.

The topics that were covered at the hackathon included:

  • PTSD support network solution.
  • Connected healthcare app using FHIR.
  • Connecting conversational search.
  • Smart suggestion task chatbot.
  • Big 5 personality trait feature.

Results

Over 100 employees participated. Some of the ideas that were generated included new ways to:

  • Onboard new employees.
  • Manage technology projects.
  • Communicate with customers via AI chat.
  • Develop new products through AI recommendations.
  • Give back to the community (PTSD support).
